Why, hello!  Fancy meeting you here.

Undercover Caterer is a blog written by me, Sarah Singleton, a 40-some-odd-year-old woman (emphasis on odd) who calls Sacramento, California home.  The blog was started in 2008, after helping cater some parties and wanting to tell people the sometimes fun and sometimes ridiculous stories that went with them.  It continued more as an outlet to talk about my obsession passion for all things food-related, including cured meats, potato chips, out-of-print and vintage cookbooks, favorite tools, restaurants and foreign markets.  Oh, and for sharing recipes.

Speaking of recipes, 2010 marked the beginning of a few features:  Nana Recipe Wednesday, Cookbook Mania! and Saturday Night Special.  Cookbook Mania! is an erratically spaced feature that highlights recipes from out-of-print or obscure (but wonderful) cookbooks.  Saturday Night Special is a weekend feature that highlights cocktail recipes or reviews of wine or other spirits.  But closest to my heart is Nana Recipe Wednesday–a feature that begun originally to share all of my Nana’s hundreds of recipe cards with the rest of my extended family.  Every Wednesday I do my best to feature a photo, a little story, the recipe and step-by-step instructions–and sometimes the improvements, too.

Undercover Caterer in her natural habitat.

And, as with any personal blog, sometimes I overshare.  Surgery?  Check.  Car accident?  It’s here.  Home improvement?  You’ll find it here.  Kids?  Husband?  Yep.  But, like my brain, it’s mostly about the food.

I hope you’ll find some cooking inspiration and menu ideas, as well as a laugh or two.

I also hope you’ll follow along on Facebook and Twitter.   I also write, mainly about food and food establishments, at Midtown Monthly magazine.  You can contact me at:  undercovercaterer(at)gmail(dot)com.
