Nana Recipe Wednesday–Strawberry Swirl

by Sarah on July 10, 2013

Nana in the hizzouse! Let’s make Strawberry Swirl. It’s the easiest dessert to make on the planet.

This picture is funny, all the cute teenagers with the moms in the background.  Ha!  Do you see Nana?  She is totally hiding.

This is what you need.  Really, you could use any frozen fruit–this recipe just said strawberry.  I think blackberry or raspberry would be pretty swell too. Don’t get on my case about the Jell-o pudding mix.  This is Nana Day, remember?

Frozen berries go in your blender and buzz them up till smooth.

The recipe says “Make pudding as directed except use only 1 cup milk and add almond extract”.

Pour in the strawberry and fold.  Don’t mix it all together or it will just be pink.  You want it kind of stripey.

Put the stuff in some cute glasses or glass bowls and presto!  Everyone likes you.

I think that not adding any sugar to the whipped cream is kind of genius–the pudding is sweet and the berries are just tart enough to offset the strong vanilla flavor and what could be cloying sweetness.  I would actually make this again, especially in the summer and it’s 100 degrees outside.  Try it for yourself!

Nana's Strawberry Swirl

  • 1 3 3/4 oz. package instant vanilla pudding (the small box)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped (no sugar)
  • 2 10 oz. packages frozen strawberries, thawed (Or use one of the large bags of frozen fruit)

  • Puree strawberries in a blender.
  • Prepare pudding as directed, but using only 1 cup of milk and add the almond extract.
  • Fold in the whipped cream.
  • Fold in the pureed strawberries gently, leaving bands of color.
