If I wasn’t going to be cooking at a party on New Years’ Eve, I would likely be at my cozy lil’ mid-century modest house, in my cozy pj’s, wrapped up in a cozy blanket watching old movies. You see, New Years’ Eve is Amateur Night on the town, and I prefer to stay away….far away. You can never get a drink, much less a cab home—and the drunken tomfoolery is more than this homebody can handle.
I might even make myself a nice big bowl of this fancy popcorn. Popcorn is the obvious movie night choice, but since it’s the end of the year, you might as well doll it up a little and at least pretend it’s not just another Friday night spent on the sofa. It’s an EVENT.
Undercover Truffle-Parmesan Popcorn
Parmesan in a can (such as the Kraft green can–the freshly grated stuff doesn’t work. trust me)
salt, black pepper, cayenne
Pop the popcorn in vegetable oil on the stove in a big pot with a lid. Do not use microwave popcorn, that would be gross and wrong.
Pour popcorn into a big bowl or a paper bag. Drizzle with truffle oil and toss. Taste. Drizzle with more if you can’t taste it. Repeat till the popcorn tastes lightly of truffle. Sprinkle with Parmesan to your liking. Season with salt, black pepper and a bit of cayenne to your liking.
