Saturday Night Special! Rosé Champagne

by Sarah on December 11, 2010

If any of you were wondering what to get me for the holidays this year, look no further.  Just bring a bottle of brut rosé champagne and I’ll be as happy as a clam.

Why rosé?  Why not?  I love the color, I love the persistent bubbles, I love the slight fruitiness and the acidity.  I love the just barely yeasty aroma of champagne.  I love that it goes with just about everything–food wise.  I love how it makes any time a party.

Now, if I was Kanye or somebody, we could drink this Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé from France.  Unless you’re Kanye, it’s probably not in your holiday budget ($500).  (But Kanye, if you’re reading this–feel free.  Just shoot me an email for my address.)

This one is the one I usually pick out.  Same house (Roederer Estate), just here in California.  The estate and tasting room are both gorgeous, so if you happen to be in the neighborhood, do drop by and check it out.  They charge a nominal fee for tasting.

This non-vintage (ie:  a blend) champagne is 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay—with just a touch of still pinot noir added to give it that salmon-colored hue.  For the $25 price tag, you can’t buy a better sparkler.……………………………………………………………………

Pour yourself a glass of champagne and lift it in honor of Eric Vignango, fellow champagne lover, gone almost 2 weeks now.  Your friends miss you.
