I have tasted the nectar of the gods, thy name is Philz Coffee.
This is Phil Jaber, the creator of Philz.
The Philz story in a nutshell: Phil ran a corner market at 24th and Folsom in San Francisco. He began developing coffee blends for his own pleasure, and spent 20+ years perfecting his method. He and his son Jacob converted the store into the coffee shop in 2003.
It just seemed so fussy. Order from a giant chalkboard of coffee blends (The staff is helpful and will recommend something to you if you don’t have a pro with you), they make each cup separately–one cup at a time!–even mixing the cream and sugar according to your liking.
I’m going to be honest. I’m ALWAYS honest with you, readers. I was skeptical. I’m not a coffee connosieur. And frankly, how good can a coffee really be, anyway?
Seriously? This was the best coffee I have ever tasted in my entire life. The sun came out, birds sang and danced around my head and a rainbow came through the window. It was that good.
Phil, please come to Sacramento. I can’t duplicate your loving ways. And regular coffee just isn’t good anymore.
But you can damn well bet I’m going to try–I brought a pound of Jacob’s Wonderbar home with me!
P.S. Coffee subscriptions are available. And Christmas is coming. Hint, hint.

I’m not a coffee connosieur either, but I have noticed that even a mediocre coffee that is made by the cup (drip or press) tastes significantly better than when made in large batches in a machine. Same thing for good coffee, it goes from good to great.
I too, love Phil’s. A friend of mine used to live right by it and I would go when I stayed at her place. However, to tread into TMI territory, it basically makes me poop my pants. So no more Philz for me.
Thankfully I did not have that reaction!
