Oh. Why, hello.

As some of you regulars know, and for you folk just stopping by, my name is Sarah and this here is my blog.  I like to talk about food.  I do a fair amount of cooking here, I do a little bit of travel, and occasionally I touch on other things going on around here as the mood strikes.  I started this blog a little over 2 years ago just to have a little creative outlet for my cooking experimentation and it’s turned into an obsession awesome experience!

Pictured below is my Nana and myself.  Now Nana was and continues to be my inspiration in the kitchen.  My muse, if you will.  She was a pretty cool lady and made a lot of tasty vittles.  For the past year, I’ve been chronicling her many–and I mean MANY–recipes once a week so that they’re preserved.  Some are dated, yes, but others are timeless and worth hanging onto.

I’ve really loved going through Nana’s recipes weekly and trying them all.  Nana died in 1993, so it’s been a nice way to bring her back into my life as well as into my kids lives, who were quite young when she passed.  In a way, they are getting to know her through her recipes, which means a lot to me.  I feature one recipe a week, on what is known around here as “Nana Recipe Wednesdays”.  And I’m cooking them ALL.  From delectable Soft Gingerbread (pictured below) to a not-so-great rice salad dish made from a mix.  I’m not kidding around here, I will try anything.

Over here at Undercover Caterer, it’s not only Nana’s recipes.  I’m willing to take on anything.  There’s a semi-regular feature highlighting great forgotten cookbooks.  There’s some food preservation.  There’s some restaurant reviews.  There’s contests.  There are funny stories about my catering events.  There is more rambling than I care to admit to. There is genuine food nerdery.

I like to make comfort food, like this crispy fried chicken and greens….

And I also like to make labor intensive French food, like this Country Terrine and Zucchini Pickles

A few twists on familiar dishes is always fun…

And in case you think I forgot, I DO dabble in the sweet stuff too.

There are occasional references to these monsters.  They’re much older now, but I prefer to remember them like this.  So sweet, so mischievous, so HUNGRY.

So, why am I telling you all this?  Because I’ve entered a contest put on by the good people over at Foodbuzz–The Next Food Blog Star!  Why do I, of all people, think I have what it takes to be a BLOGSTAR?  Well, who knows.  What I do know is that I’m crazy passionate about this stuff, I think I’m pretty good at getting my readers motivated to get in the kitchen, and I try to make it fun.  And I think that if that all fails, my readers get a laugh or two reading my crazy rambling.

And readers?  If you love me like I love you, you’ll go on over to Foodbuzz and start voting.  It begins Monday, September 20th–don’t worry, I’ll remind you.

So follow along and let’s get cooking.  If I can do it, so can you.
