Everybody’s Going Uptown

That’s where I wanna be
Uptown – U can set your mind free, yeah
Uptown – keep your body hot
Get down – I don’t wanna stop, no!

(name that tune)

Ha ha–we’re not through with Minnesota yet suckas.  There’s more.  I’ll just give you some tidbits here and there so you don’t get tired of it.  Besides, I’ve got recipes to give you.  Boy, do I.

Anyway, Zane and I were walking around one late morning in search of a decent cup of coffee and a bite to eat.  We stopped in to this joint because it had great big open windows and I’m a sucker for those.

I’m not sure about their official name though….Uptown Cafeteria and Support Group?  It’s a full bar on one side–where I’m assuming a coffee shop counter once stood.  Is that the support group?  I don’t know.  It’s just too hip and clever for me to figure out.

Cool furniture though, and look at those nice open windows!

These cafeteria trays were all over the walls in the entry and hallways.  But would our food be served on them?

I don’t know why little things like this tickle my fancy, but they do.  I just like this condiment selection and placement.

We weren’t that hungry so we just got some cheddar cheese biscuits with honey butter.

And a nice fruit plate too.  They technically don’t do breakfast on the weekdays–and this fruit was on the breakfast menu–but they were sweethearts and made it for us anyway.

YES, I admit it, it’s got comfort food–the very thing I’ve said publicly that I’m sick and tired of.  But some of the menu is quite interesting!  Really!  Crab rangoon?  “The Brainerd”–pan seared walleye, served with wild rice pilaf and veg , chicken curry masala, or perhaps a cheese-stuffed, foot long Kobe dog?  I think that’s some thinking outside the box, right there.

They’ve also got one of those fancy rooftop bars that are popular in Minneapolis.

And just take a look at these desserts!

Just kidding, they’re all fake.  Ha ha!

Anyway, it’s a good thing we stopped in because we had to fuel up for some shopping.

Cosby sweater, anyone?
