Saturday Night Special! Sloe Gin Rickey

by Sarah on May 22, 2010

I saw tonight on the interwebs that Bon Appetit used this drink recipe to commemorate Rickey Henderson last year when he got inducted into the baseball hall of fame.  Really, Bon Appetit?

Dudes, Rickey Henderson was anything but SLOW.   He was the stolen base champ, for god’s sake.  Stupid Bon Appetit. That sealed their fate of non-renewal for me.  Oh wait, that’s right, they’re in LA, they probably like the Dodgers or something.

But the Sloe Gin Rickey DRINK is good! I first saw it in my old friend, Mr. Boston’s DeLuxe Bartender Guide. What IS this so-called “sloe gin”? I’d never had it. I tried to purchase it at my local Raley’s and they didn’t carry it. I had to go over to Corti Brothers to finally find it and geeeez it was expensive. But, for you, readers, I went ahead and made the purchase.

This is another perfect warm weather beverage, and simple to make.  All you need is sloe gin, limes and carbonated water.  Put a few ice cubes in a highball glass and squeeze in the juice of half a lime.  Add the lime carcass to the glass.  Pour in 2 oz. sloe gin.  Top with carbonated water.

That’s it!  I told you it was simple.

And it’s pink.  I like it!  Crisp and refreshing.

recipe from Mr. Boston’s DeLuxe Bartender’s Guide
