I like to go to Zen Sushi. That’s where Lou is.
I always start with gomae, a salad of blanched spinach with a sesame and soy dressing. It’s delicious and perfect to begin with. After that, I just eat whatever Lou hands to me. It’s not cheap but it’s a 4-star experience. Sushi shouldn’t be cheap anyway–good fresh fish isn’t cheap, man.
This dish is soft tofu and asparagus with a white miso dressing. I could eat this every day.
Hamachi toro. I love some soft white underbelly.
Lou concoction. I’ve unfortunately forgotten what the fish slices are, but they encase snow crab and asparagus and are sitting on ponzu I think.
One of my favorites, Lou’s preparation of ocean trout.
I stopped at the ocean trout, but G forged ahead and was rewarded for his stamina with some aji–Spanish makerel. He loves it. I don’t love it, which is why he always ends up with it last. This is a small fish and one order is half the fish. Sometimes Lou will deep-fry the skeleton and serve it like a chip with lemon and course salt. That I like.
Looking for a 4 star sushi experience in Sacramento? Look no further. Don’t order from the menu. Just say “omakase, please”.
