Washington Apple Crisp

by Sarah on February 23, 2010

Me + Washington + Apples = Dessert.   It’s not rocket science, ya know.  They all just go together.
Cut up a bunch of apples.  I think we’ve got Gala apples here.  Season them with the juice of half a lemon, about a Tbsp cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of salt.  Sprinkle in a bit of Wondra or regular flour.  Mix it all up and place in an oven-proof baking dish.

For topping, mix some soft butter, oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg.  If you like nuts, you could even add some chopped walnut or pecan also.

Look out for Jedi Knights lurking about.  They get upset if something goes wrong with dessert.

Pour the topping over the apples, making sure to cover it all with the crunchy goodness.

In case you didn’t have enough butter, we’ll put a few blobs on top to make sure you do.  This also helps with browning and general tastiness.

Bake in a 350* oven for about 20-30 minutes, or until the top is brown and crispy, and the apples are cooked through.

You may want to serve this with a nice big scoop of vanilla.

It will keep the Jedi pleased.  Very pleased.
