Another Exciting Saturday Night at My House

by Sarah on November 23, 2009

I admit it freely.  I like the TV.  I never really used to care about the TV, but that was before I was introduced to the CABLE and flat-screen gigantic HDTV’s.  Well guess what beeyatches?  I gots both now.  Right now, I’m currently enthralled by Mad Men (Oh!  Don Draper!), Dexter, Curb Your Enthusiasm (I really can relate to Larry, you know?)and a lot of PBS.  Frontline, American Experience, Antiques Roadshow.  I love that shiz.  I also like Breaking Bad (Hal!) and of course The Wire–I loved Omar!  He was so bad/good.  And MASH.  And Dick Van Dyke.  OH!  And The French Chef!  And all those other good cooking shows on PBS.  There’s a lot of good TV if you’re not stuck watching the networks.

Where the hell was I going with this again?

POPCORN.  Weird way to get around to popcorn, but there’s a point, sort of.  I like to make popcorn and watch some good TV on the weekends.  I’m just too tired to go out so much anymore, unless there’s a band I MUST see or a party or someone’s making me dinner or something.

One Saturday night, the husband decided to stay home with me and we decided to pop some corn and watch the tube.  I popped the stuff on the stove, like in the olden days.  Then I remembered a secret ingredient!  BACON SALT.  They had an ad on the blog some while ago and I vowed that I must try this magical Bacon Salt.  So.  Batch #1:  1 big bowl popcorn + 2 Tbsp melted unsalted butter + bacon salt + pepper to taste.  Mmm.  Bacony.

We also decided to make another variety, just for funsies.  Batch #2:  1 big bowl popcorn + 1-2 Tbsp Bariani white truffle oil + 1/2 tsp cayenne +  1 tsp black pepper + 1-2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese FROM A CAN.  Really.  From the can–whether you use the green one or some generic variety.  It’s the best for popcorn because it doesn’t get melty or oily.  This is really savory and has just a hint of spiciness.  I make this fairly often for catering because the people love it.  They eat this stuff up!

You can even eat this popcorn and play Monopoly if you want.  I think I’ll stick to TV—I really sucked at Monopoly.
